PHILOSPHY AND PRACTICE
Trauma
My practice focuses on trauma, because I find that trauma is often at the root of anxiety and depression, and the trauma we’ve experienced in the past colors how we respond to all kinds of challenges and transitions in life. Trauma can profoundly impact our beliefs about ourselves, others, and the world we live in. It can lead to stress and anxiety, anger, or numbness and depression. It can look like trying to control everything or feeling panicked and out of control. It makes it difficult to build trust and relationships. We might push people away, or we might become people pleasers who have a hard time standing up for ourselves.
Trauma goes hand in hand in with grief. Losing people we love is traumatic. Sometimes we mourn the loss of how things were before a trauma, or we may mourn for the loss of future we had planned.
My training and background focused on trauma, working with service members injured in combat. I’ve learned to apply these skills to working with all kinds of trauma, including sudden losses, frightening accidents, interpersonal violence, childhood abuse, and sexual assault, and also the often overlooked complex trauma of discrimination. There is trauma in living in an hostile environment, being subjected to bullying, racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, and ableism.
Disability
Much of my experience has been working with folks with disability - initially with TBI (traumatic brain injury), amputations, or spinal cord injuries working with the military population, and then in the years since I’ve worked with individuals with a wide variety of chronic illness and disabilities. I work from the social model of disability, focusing on the stress of living with societal barriers, and how this can impact self-esteem and mood.
Neurodivergence
A focus of my practice is working with individuals whose brains are wired differently than “typical.” I am neurodivergent myself, and I enjoy working with ADHDers, autistic folks, and individuals with TBI and other neurological differences. Neurodivergent individuals are often subject to trauma through bullying and abusive “treatment,“ and trying to adapt to a neurotypical world can be a huge source of stress. Neurodivergent folks also far more likely to be queer or trans, and subjected to discrimination and trauma for their identity. I believe our differences are valuable, and I look forward to connecting with clients about their special interests, creativity, and different ways of thinking and experiencing the world. My goal is to make therapy a supportive, validating experience where clients feel safe to unmask and work through stress and trauma.
SERVICES
-
Individual Therapy
Individual telehealth sessions with adults, teens, and older adults, using a secure, HIPAA compliant chat. Person-centered approach focused on your individual goals and needs, often incorporating mindfulness and coping skills. The focus is first on building trust and a therapeutic connection, and then on helping clients define and work towards their goals. I’m big on authenticity, I’ll be real in our sessions, because that’s part of making a real connection. And I’ll work to make sure therapy feels like a safe and accepting space, safe enough for you to be real too.

Coaching for Parents
Coaching services to support parents, based on the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions model. This approach focused on identifying and solving problems rather than modifying behavior, and it is all about mutual understanding and working together with children to come up with solutions that work for the whole family. This approach is well suited to neurodivergent individuals, but it is an excellent strategy for any family to avoid power struggles and to help children grown into confident adults who can manage challenges.
This is a coaching service with short term, focused sessions to teach and practice strategies for parents to implement. There is no diagnosis or identified "patient," and so it is not covered by medical insurance.

Letters Supporting Gender Affirming Care
One session assessments to document support for gender affirming surgeries, hormone therapy, or changing gender markers on legal documents. My goal is to support your right to make your own medical decisions, and to minimize the stress and burden imposed by letter requirements. I’m committed to making this service accessible to all.

Therapeutic Gaming Groups
Play therapy is a well established, effective approach to working through trauma, anxiety, and depression. Play gives us a chance to practice skills in safe way, and can help us feel safer tackling difficult issues. As a certified role playing geek, I would love to offer table top RPG sessions give adults as well as children a chance to work on therapeutic goals in a safe, supportive, fun, environment.

Clinical Supervision
I offer individual clinical supervision to therapists and counselors working towards their LCSW or LPC in New Jersey. My areas of interest and experience are adolescents and adults, trauma, neurodivergence, disability, and decolonizing therapy. I love connecting with and supporting other neurodivergent providers.
Payment Information
Insurance Plans
I am in-network with Aetna, United Healthcare, Oscar, and Oxford commercial insurance. I use Headway to process the billing for these insurances. I am only credentialed/in network with these insurance plans when seeing clients in NJ. For clients located in NY, please see the out of network options.
Medicare
I am a Medicare provider, and accept traditional Medicare part B and most secondary or supplemental plans for beneficiaries in NJ, where my office is located. As I do not have a physical office in NY, I am unable to see clients with traditional Medicare who reside in NY.
I am not in network with any Medicare Advantage plans, but I can work with Medicare Advantage participants in NY and NJ whose plans have out of network benefits.
Out of Network
If I am not in network with your insurance, and you have a plan with out of network benefits, it is still possible to have insurance pay much of the cost of therapy, and you can choose how you would like to process that billing.
Clients can pay up front for services, and I will provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
I can also use Mentaya to process out of network billing, so you only need to pay your copay or coinsurance up front, and they will collect the rest from your insurance..
